Comic Book Publisher Re-Imagines the Rock-Paper-Scissors Game as a Violent Planetary War for Dominance and Peace

A comic book limited series is launching its third issue featuring a brutal fictional war between the empires of Rock, Paper and Scissors.

Mississauga, Canada, October 11, 2019 –(PR.com)– Indie comic book publisher Zelpha Comics observes the hand-game battle of Rock-Paper-Scissors differently than most people. The game most commonly used around the world to determine who will be responsible for an unwanted task, using three basic hand gestures, is now transformed into a greater battle for planetary supremacy within a planned 4-issue limited series.

The comic book series Paper Rock Scissors N’ Stuff Wars re-imagines the hand tournament as an animated battle between the kingdoms of Paper Flatopia, the Scissors’ Metallic Empire and the Boldous Quartz homeland of the Rocks. In this new concept, when the Scissors army discovers sentient Paper creatures, they mercilessly commit an ethnic cleansing against the unsuspecting inhabitants of Flatopia. Some Papers escape the slaughter and while exploring the desert, they come across xenophobic indestructible Rocks beings with only one weakness – they’re claustrophobic. With this knowledge, the Papers intend to use the Rocks and any means necessary to destroy the Scissors Army and retake their kingdom.

The concept of Paper Rock Scissors N’ Stuff Wars was developed by Luanga Lue Nuwame, founder of Zelpha Comics. After playing an impromptu game of Rock-Paper-Scissors with a friend’s uncle, who was visiting Canada from a small remote village in Asia, Nuwame realized not only the incredible international reach of the game, but also the fact that there wasn’t any in-depth stories on the market that brought the game to life. Writing the first issue in one evening, Nuwame garnered further inspiration from real international news events to craft a tale of war, betrayal, bigotry, fascism and the need to unify with an enemy to defeat a greater threat on a fictional distant planet. The concept of Paper Rock Scissors N’ Stuff Wars is meant to be ostentatious, weird, disturbing, funny, poignant and bewildering.

“It is my goal is to finish a 4-issue limited series that will offer indie comic book fans something they never experienced before, yet it will seem all too familiar at the same time,” states Nuwame. Along with professional comic book artist Hugh Rookwood, the first two issues of Paper Rock Scissors N’ Stuff Wars has been completed and the third installment is in the development stage. The fourth and final double-sized issue to wrap up the story arc is planned for a spring 2020 release. Nuwame and Rookwood intend to create an animated series once the fourth issue is completed.

In a marketplace over-saturated with superhero movies and constant universe changing story arcs that leave hard-core comic book fans feeling fatigued and confused, Zelpha Comics is hoping this comic book based on a universally understood and enjoyed game can show people originality and consistent storytelling is still possible in the comic book industry.

The first two issues of Paper Rock Scissors N’ Stuff Wars are available on the Zelpha website handmadecardboardinnovations.com and a campaign to complete issue #3 can be found at: http://kck.st/307IRvB. The Kickstarter campaign contains limited print variant covers by industry legend Michael T. Gilbert and internationally renowned Canadian comic book cover artist Mike Rooth.
