That’s my motivation.” That is what LyricalGenes repeats throughout the hook of his song, showing great transparency as to why he works so hard and for whom he does it for. Dana Burtin’s (LyricalGenes’) family has always been the top priority in his life. Being raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Dana saw the different aspects of life through sympathy. Seeing the suburban and urban lifestyles, LyricalGenes quickly became acquainted with the fact that everyone has their own story. It is through these two perspectives that Dana began to construct his music in general.

With LyriclaGenes’ “Family” single being inspired by the 2018 Antioch Waffle House shooting in remembrance to his cousin, De’Ebony Groves, who was shot and killed at age 21, Dana found the strength to uplift others through his song. Even when he feels like giving up, he utters the words, “What? You thought I was finished? Think MJ would have gave up when he lost Scottie Pippen?” Clearly illustrating how dedicated LyricalGenes is to his craft. In the last verse, LyricalGenes states, “Trying to make a living what I write down, step aside it’s my time now,” distinctly showing his secondary motive, to become successful and make a living off of his music.
