FTC Workshop Will Examine Changing Consumer Demographics

The Federal Trade Commission will host a workshop in Washington, DC, on December 6, 2016, to examine changing consumer demographics and how they will affect the FTC’s work in the years ahead.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population is getting older and more racially and ethnically diverse. Understanding our changing communities will be necessary as the FTC continues its efforts to combat unfair and deceptive practices affecting all consumers.

During the workshop, researchers, marketers, consumer groups, and law enforcement will discuss issues such as:

  • Who are the consumers of the future?
  • How is advertising and marketing changing to reach these consumers? and
  • How will fraud likely change and what can the FTC and others do to combat fraud perpetuated against these consumers?

The workshop, which is free and open to the public, will be at the Constitution Center, 400 7th St., SW, Washington, DC. Preregistration is not required. Doors will open at 9 a.m., and the workshop will begin at 10 a.m. A live webcast of the workshop will be available on the day of the event.

Persons who wish to share pertinent research with the workshop team should send an email to demographicsworkshop@ftc.gov. Before and during the workshop, FTC staff will take questions at this email address. Advance questions can also be directed to Rosario Mendez at 202-326-3749 or Patti Poss at 202-326-2413.
