The Federal Trade Commission and the Georgia National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will host a free, public event in Atlanta on Tues., May 19, 2015 starting at 6:00 p.m. to discuss consumer issues affecting people in Georgia.

Billed as an evening to empower Georgia consumers, the community “Scam Jam” includes information booths with free resources and training to participants on recognizing and avoiding common scams. Topics include consumer privacy, identity theft, debt collection scams, mortgage scams, and much more.

After a brief welcome from the president of the Georgia NAACP, Rev. Dr. Francys Johnson, CBS Radio Atlanta V-103’s anchor Maria Boynton will kick-off the event. Other guest speakers from the FTC, Georgia governor’s office, AARP, and the Jump Start Coalition for Financial Literacy will discuss hot scams, top consumer complaints, identity theft, and credit issues.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. ET, and the agenda is as follows:

The Scam Jam will be hosted at the Central Presbyterian Church located at 201 Washington Street SW, Atlanta, GA 30303.
